Sugarfoot Stomp 9th birthday and film screening of Hellzapoppin' (1941) in association with Outer Sight. Friday 20th September at the Hare and Hounds.

We are very excited to be celebrating our 9th year of Sugarfooting by teaming up with the mysterious pop-up speakeasy film parlour that is Outer Sight. Together we will be bringing you a pre-Sugarfoot film screening of Hellzapoppin' from 1941; a film which contains one of the best lindy hopping dance sequences in cinema history!

Here is a synopsis:

Absolutely mad frame-busting comedy starring the infamous duo, Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson. Ole and Chic are a couple of stagehands who try to help a young playwright woo the girl of his dreams, but manage to wreck his big stage production in the process. One of the wildest, most imaginative comedies ever made, it's a film of a play within a film. The projectionist is assaulted by the usherette. The stars talk to the audience. The projector goes wrong - and the stars notice. It has one of the greatest pieces of Lindyhopping ever filmed. This film does things nobody else did for thirty or forty years, and has stuff which would be wackily avant-garde today.

The screening (courtesy of Film Ficciones- the brains and beating heart behind Outer Sight and king of Sugarfoot Stomp's moving images) will be preceded by some short films and will be followed by our club night. You can come to one or the other but we would recommend coming to both because they will each be a life alteringly joyous experience!

It costs £6 to come to the screening and the night and just £3 for the night which should start at around 9.30 pm.

Doors are at 7 pm and we will be keeping you up way past your bedtime until 2 am.

Here is a Youtube clip of the Lindy-hopping scene so you can see just what we mean:

I just want to reiterate how excited we are!

Sugarfoot at Sunrise With Live Score this Friday. Mac Arena, Birmingham.

We're happy to be collaborating with our Flatpack Festival pals again this Friday as we will be providing some pre-film music for their screening of Sunrise, in the outdoor arena at the mac Birmingham.

Murnau's 1927 film, 'the tale of a farmer who gets seduced by a vamp from the big city' will be accompanied by a live score courtesy of former Conservatoire student and acclaimed pianist Alcyona Mick.

We will be playing from 8.30 pm for an hour and the film will follow soon after that.

For more booking information please see the mac's website:

Not one to be missed, we are very excited!

Shop launch at Agnes & Norman, Birmingham.

A couple of weeks ago we were asked to spin some 1920s and 1930s records for the launch of a new boutique shoe shop in Birmingham's snazzy Great Western Arcade.

Agnes & Norman specialises in beautiful vintage footwear. We would recommend perusing their website which includes a gorgeous seaside-themed fashion photo shoot to drool over.

We also got to take away a pair of shoes of our choice for the honour. Not bad for an evening's work eh?

Here you can see Doris modelling hers...

Sugarfoot Stomp at Cheltenham Jazz Festival May 3rd.

We may have been a wee bit quiet of late but believe us we have been brewing up a storm...

Next Friday on May 3rd we will be spinning our vinyl at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival event: Jazz at the Manor which runs from 10 pm until the respectable hour of 2 am. This shindig will be held in the Fitzgerald-esque grounds of Cowley Manor within the glorious realm of the Cotswolds.

If coming to see us wasn't enough to whet your appetite, there will be live bands and celebrity djs keeping you going into the early hours.

It is set to be a delectably grand affair!
